At Whitefield Primary, we believe that a child’s first experience of school should be inspiring, nurturing and full of opportunities to explore and grow. Our Reception provision has been thoughtfully designed to provide a welcoming environment where children can learn through play, curiosity and discovery.
Our Reception classes are located in their own separate building, creating a calm and purposeful space dedicated entirely to our youngest learners. Inside, you will find two spacious classrooms and a large area for continuous provision, carefully organised to support all areas of early development. These engaging learning spaces include areas for:
-
Fine motor development
-
Small world play
-
Construction
-
Domestic role play
-
A cosy reading area
-
Creative and painting stations
-
Sand exploration
Each area is designed to encourage independence, imagination and collaboration while helping children develop essential early learning skills.
Learning continues outdoors in our generous and inviting outdoor area, where children can explore and develop through a range of exciting opportunities. These include a water area, mud kitchen, and music and art spaces, allowing children to experiment, create and investigate the world around them. There is also plenty of space for children to build obstacle courses, transport tyres and wooden blocks, and develop their gross motor skills through active play.
We are also proud of our well-established Forest School area located in our beautiful Jubilee Garden. This carefully maintained space allows children to connect with nature while developing confidence and practical skills. Here, children can explore the natural environment, build dens, pond dip and learn to safely use tools, all while developing resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
We understand how important a smooth start to school is for both children and parents. During our induction period, parents will be invited into school to meet with members of the Senior Leadership Team, where you will learn more about what our school has to offer. Your child will also spend time with the Reception Team through Stay and Play sessions, helping them become familiar with the staff, the environment and their new routines before they begin school.
At Whitefield Primary, we are incredibly proud of the rich, nurturing environment we offer. We truly believe our Reception provision gives children the very best start to their schooling journey, building confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
