At Whitefield Primary school, keeping members of our school community safe, whilst using technology, is a priority. Children are encouraged to explore and make responsible decisions regarding their uses of technology, informed by ‘education’ as opposed to the imposition of restrictions. As children are engaging with 21st Century technologies both inside and outside of school, we aim to provide opportunities for both children and the wider community to understand and view 'online safeguarding' education as a key life skill. Online Safety Websites
www.bbc.com/ownit - child friendly website that covers different aspects of the online world. Advice on how to look after digital wellbeing, friendships, relationships, trolling, tips on how to deal with tricky situations on line and links to organisations that can offer urgent help if needed. There is also a parents section that has lots of handy tips and addresses common concerns.
www.childnet.com - Childnet is a charity that gives advice to children and parents to help them to get the best of their online experience whilst staying safe. There is a wealth of advice on their website for children, parents and schools including advice about parental controls and how to report incidents.
www.commonsensemedia.org - Written by parents and children to give common sense information and reviews about films, games, apps and their age appropriateness and content.
